Have a picnic
Pack a lunch and head to your local park for a fun summertime picnic. Don't feel up to going to the park? Picnics are great because you don't even have to go to the park, you can have a fun little picnic in your yard. Invite a couple of their friends and enjoy. This is literally just the cost of lunch which can be sandwiches or your favorites.
Our favorite place to have a picnic is along the river. It is relaxing to listen to the water while you eat lunch. If the river is safe to swim in you can have some fun in the water while you are there. Some rivers can be quite dangerous to swim in so please do be careful with small kids.
Don't forget to bring a Frisbee or ball to play with afterwards!
Go on a nature walk
Get outside and explore! Go on a nature walk and see how many different types of plants and animals you can find. You can even turn it into a game and see who can find the most. This is a great summertime activity that gets you and your kids outside enjoying the summer weather.
You can even walk around the neighborhood if you cannot get out into a new area to explore. Sometimes walking around a local park can be a great nature walk. And while you are going for a walk around the park, you can bring lunch and have a picnic!
If you want to make it even more fun, bring along a camera and have your kids take pictures of what they find. This is a great way to help them learn about nature and photography.
Visit a local farm
Head to a local farm and explore! Many farms offer summertime activities for kids such as hayrides, picking fruits and vegetables, and even petting zoos. This is a great summertime activity that will get your kids outside enjoying the summer weather. It is also a great opportunity to teach your kids about where food comes from.
Farms are great summertime destinations because they usually have a lot of open space for kids to run around and explore. This is a great way to tire them out so they can take a nice long nap when you get home!
Every year we have a tradition - go berry picking. Our favorites are strawberries and blueberries. Apple picking is fun too, but that is fall so I don't want to get ahead of myself here!
Go for a swim
A summertime staple, swimming is a great way to cool off on a hot summer day. If you have a pool in your backyard, great! If not, many communities have public pools that you can visit. This is a great summertime activity for the whole family.
If you don't want to go to the pool, you can always head to the beach. Beaches are great summertime destinations because they offer a lot of activities for the whole family. You can swim, build sandcastles, go for a walk, and even have a picnic. Just be sure to pack some sunscreen!
If you are on a budget rivers, creeks and lakes can be a lot of fun too! Many times you can swim for a low fee or free and bring lunch for a picnic. Just be sure that the lake or river is safe to swim in. Some rivers can be quite dangerous and not for kids to swim in.
Playing in the sprinkler or slip and slide
No pool, no problem! Playing in the sprinkler is a summertime classic. It is one that I always loved as a kid (we won't talk about how many years ago that was.)
Turn on the sprinkler and let your kids run through it to cool off. If you don't have a sprinkler, you can always just turn on the hose and spray them down. This is a great summertime activity that will get your kids outside enjoying the summer weather.
If you want to get really creative, you can even make a slip and slide. All you need is a tarp, some soap (baby soap is best), and water. Spread out the tarp, add some soap and water, and let your kids slide away! Just be sure to supervise them so they don't hurt themselves.
Bike riding
Another summertime classic, bike riding is a great way to get your kids outside enjoying the summer weather. It is also a great way to get some exercise. If you don't have bikes, many communities have bike rental programs that are very affordable.
Bike riding is a great summertime activity because it can be done with the whole family. You can go for a leisurely ride around the neighborhood or you can go for a longer ride and explore a new area. Either way, it is a great way to spend some time together as a family.
Hiking
Hiking is a great summertime activity that gets your kids outside enjoying the summer weather. It is also a great way to get some exercise. If you live near woods or trails, hiking is a great summertime activity for the whole family. Many trails have different difficulty levels so you can find one that is perfect for your family.
Hiking is summertime fun for the whole family. Just like on the nature walk, you can see how many animals and plants you can find. Be sure to pack some snacks and water so you can have a picnic when you reach the top!
I love to hike on trails, it is so peaceful and relaxing. We go on different trails to see different sights. You never know what you will find on a hiking trail.
Camping
Camping is a great summertime activity that your kids will love and it will get them outside in the nice summer weather. It is also a great way to teach your kids about nature. If you have a tent, camping is a great summertime activity for the whole family. Many campgrounds have different activities for the whole family. You can go hiking, fishing, swimming, and even canoeing. Just be sure to pack some bug spray!
Camping is perfect because it is something the whole family can do together. It is also a great way to teach your kids about nature. There are a lot of different plants, animals and other cool stuff that you will likely find on your adventure. Be sure to pack plenty of foods that can be cooked on a campfire. Don't forget the marshmallows!
We love to go camping. We usually go with friends and we always have a great time. Camping is a great way to get away from it all and enjoy the summer weather.
Make homemade popsicles
Kids love eating foods they help make and popsicles are something they will love to make. They are also a great way to cool down quickly on a hot day.
If you are looking for a summertime treat that is both delicious and healthy, look no further than homemade popsicles. Homemade popsicles are easy to make and only require a few simple ingredients. We love Greek yogurt and berry popsicles, easy and delicious!
You can even make them by mixing fruit juice and fruit together if you do not want or have yogurt. Simply mix the ingredients together, pour into popsicle molds, and freeze. It is that easy!
Chasing fireflies
One of my favorite summertime activities is chasing fireflies. This is a great summertime activity that gets your kids outside enjoying the summer weather. It is also a great way to teach your kids about nature.
I still enjoy catching fireflies as an adult. Please be careful catching them so you do not hurt them, they are harmless. If you are gentle and patient sometimes you can get them to land in your hand.
Fishing
Fishing is a great summertime activity that gets your kids outside enjoying the summer weather. If you have a fishing rod, fishing is a great summertime activity for the whole family. Many lakes and ponds have different types of fish. Just be sure to pack some bait and a lunch so you can have a picnic by the water.
Make sure you look up the rules about fishing licenses in the area you will be fishing in. States have different fees and rules for obtaining a license along with who needs a license to fish. Where we live you need a fishing license over 16. You can usually find more information about this online or at a local bait shop.
Fishing is one of my favorite summertime activities because it is so peaceful and relaxing. I love being by the water and enjoying the summer weather. Be sure to pack everything you need so you can have a great time!
Water balloon fight
A summertime classic, water balloon fights are always a hit with kids. They are a great way to cool down on a hot summer day. Just be sure to have plenty of balloons and water on hand so you can keep refilling them.
If you want to take it up a notch, try having a water balloon relay race. This is a great summertime activity for a group of kids. Divide the kids into teams and have them compete to see who can fill up their balloon the fastest. The team that finishes first wins!
These are just a few summertime activities that your kids will love. Get outside and enjoy the summer weather! And don't forget the sunscreen!
